Although unaware at the time, we're all born with infinite potential for Knowledge and Wisdom. Through education and societal conditioning, we gain Knowledge of the brain and by experiencing the application of this Knowledge, we gain Wisdom of the heart. Unfortunately, we're taught to let Knowledge dictate our thoughts, words, actions and decisions, and discount the accumulated Wisdom of our hearts - our instincts, feelings and the voice of our soul.
I believe Knowledge and Wisdom should work together equally, but one can only achieve this state by first embracing the concept that both are, in fact, equally important. Through Knowledge we learn things. Through application of this Knowledge, we gain Wisdom. Through applying Wisdom, we become True Leaders.
Why does it seem so many people are asking for, but not experiencing True Leadership in their jobs and lives today? I think we've blurred the line between Leadership and Management, at the professional level, to the point where unless it directly ties to short-term financial success, measured in days, weeks and quarters, we discount its value.
While the line is often blurred, True Leadership is about emotionally inspiring others to find and achieve their greatness as people in their various roles. Management is more about intellectually motivating people to do something, typically measured by metrics tied to a financial goal. Unfortunately, we've promoted Managers who achieve these financial goals into positions of Leadership and call them Leaders. People are not inspired by motivational tactics designed to reach these short term, immediate goals - they want and deserve true inspiration from their Leaders.
